HSSP Clearinghouse Website
Yoga ~ Complementary and Alternative Health Care
Project Definition: The Health Sciences Scholars Program is an undergraduate
living & learning community associated with the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. For my internship with HSSP, I designed a website to serve as a Clearinghouse for the program, with target audiences being current and prospective HSSP students.
My Role: I designed the information architecture of the site, collected and organized all resources, wrote content, and implemented every technology used on the website prototype.
Mentor Feedback: As I made rapid headway with the website and its contents, my mentor, HSSP director Michelle O'Grady, made the remark that my dedication to the progress of the Clearinghouse website was "like a dream come true" for her.
Technologies Used: CSS & XHTML, JavaScript, Flash, Java applets
Site Contents: The Clearinghouse website has extensive content organized for the target audiences: prospective and current students at HSSP. Main content categories include self-assessments, such as interest and learning style inventories; employment and internship resources and links; opportunities for student enrichment; information about trends and statistics in health care; information on international, national, and state-wide health care issues; frequently asked questions; and descriptions of health care professions in both traditional and complementary & alternative health care domains.
Outcome: The website and its contents are currently under review and consideration by the LSA advising faculty. It is likely that the site will be made available to academic audiences in the near future.
