User-Experience Design and Web Development

Introduction

I'm a recent graduate of the University of Michigan's School of Information, where I earned a Master of Information Science degree, with a specialization in Human-Computer Interaction. I graduated in April of 2010, and worked throughout the summer of 2010 developing a new website for the UM Health Sciences Scholars Program. I am currently working at the Ann Arbor-based company Systems in Motion, and I am also a usability specialist at Ford Motor Company. I completed my undergraduate degree in psychology and anthropology from the University of Michigan in 2005.

What You'll Find in This Portfolio

In this portfolio, you will find information about my research and design projects in user-centered design and website development. I completed two internships, one with the University of Michigan's Life Sciences Institute and one at U of M's Health Sciences Scholars Program, during my Master's degree program. The former was an internship in usability science, the latter in web development. These projects, as well as other applied class projects that I completed as a part of my graduate education, are described in the Portfolio section of this website.

Design Philosophy

I am committed to creating enjoyable and memorable interactive experiences that inspire others. Creating a web experience is an imaginative process, researching the impact on users is an analytical process, and designing an interface calls for the fusion of sensitivity to user needs, a consideration of business goals, and creativity. Websites and web applications have the potential to truly spark inspiration and motivation, and can facilitate both guided and spontaneous learning. Developing web applications that exceed expectations and surpass goals is my principle objective.
